People are Weird

Yay! I have a new blog and Alec made it pretty! Unfortunately I don’t have anything interesting to say. Like that has ever stopped me before.
Today, I went shopping for Girls State clothing. I’m kind of nervous about the whole thing; I’m going to be gone for a week, running for office and being elected by people I’ve never met before, and wearing what will be pretty uncomfortable clothes given the dress code and the weather in Ellensburg in June. Everyone who’s gone says it’s really fun; hopefully I’ll end up thinking so too. I will, of course, keep you posted.
The most thought provoking thing about the shopping wasn’t the shopping itself. It was the reaction I got when I entered some of the stores. For those of you who don’t know me too well, I’m a nerdy teenage girl. I look like it. My father and I walked into Forever 21, and several clerks gave us a look that was part curiosity and part disgust. We must have looked a little different from the usual customers; me in my old jeans, dirty sneakers and Tom and Jerry t-shirt, and my dad wandering around aimlessly, looking bemused and humming Bach. Then, I realized that I was being just as bad as the clerks. While they were thinking whatever caused them to give us the looks we got, I was thinking, “ahahaha you’re orange!” It’s weird how we as a society segregate ourselves as we do. People are weird.

Wow. I never thought about it like that. Why don’t I think of things that are more intelligent? It would’ve been funny to see your dad in Forever 21. I wish I was there to witness it.
