College application process

Saturday, August 6th, 2005

Well, today I took my first concrete step in the college application process…

I started the online application to the University of Chicago. It has an excellent academic reputation, is in the nice part of an interesting city, and is pretty close to my mom’s family.

It was hard to take this first step; I’m shedding my childhood. Time to start fulfilling my responsibility to the universe at large.

I miss the simplicity of kindergarten :-)

Nutella hath forsaken me

Friday, August 5th, 2005

Due to circumstances beyond my control, I am out of Nutella and will remain so until I return from Kansas on the 21st. It’s gone. Just like that. Cold turkey, no Nutella. What will I do without my Nutella fix? Alas, cruel world! How bleak my life will be without that creamy chocolatey goodness!

KFC Protest: It’s All About Location

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2005

A PETA protest outside a KFC drew extra customers to the restaurant. I think a lot of the problem was chosing Logan, Utah as the site of the protest; it seems to me that they could have picked a location in a more sympathetic area.

My favorite quote: ” ‘’I think there’s a place in this world for all of God’s creations … right next to the mashed potatoes,’’ said Rusty Smith, a KFC customer who sat on a patch of grass outside the restaurant with a group of co-workers, watching the protest.” Ouch.

Car Wash Whore

Monday, August 1st, 2005

The senior class had a car wash on Saturday. Of course, I participated; I have a close friend who’s on the ASB. It was in the 80s that day, so I wore my bikini top, as did most of the girls there.

These two possibly drunk customers told Travis, our class president, that they’d only pay if only girls washed their old, rusty Cadillac. Without asking us, he agreed. (Hence the title) It was pretty gross; they were leering at us through the windshield the whole time, and their car was rusting apart in our hands. As they handed Nicole the well-earned money, they said “You didn’t do none of the work, but you sure woulda looked good doing it!” And if that wasn’t bad enough, they told my friend and I as they were leaving to “remember babes, we’re your daddies in the caddy!” I am thoroughly scarred.

Getting Older: Can’t we just call it the 32nd of July?

Monday, August 1st, 2005

It’s the first day of August!

Noooooooo! I have to face up to the reality that my summer will soon be over… and then, my senior year and I’ll turn 18 and be an adult.

I’m not old enough to be this old!
