Getting Older: Can’t we just call it the 32nd of July?

Monday, August 1st, 2005

It’s the first day of August!

Noooooooo! I have to face up to the reality that my summer will soon be over… and then, my senior year and I’ll turn 18 and be an adult.

I’m not old enough to be this old!

Daily Epiphany

Wednesday, July 27th, 2005

Today, I got to thinking about myself and who I am. I realized that I’ve changed a lot since the beginning of my junior year, and even more since middle school. I’ve lost some innocence, but have gained self-confidence and common sense. I’m not the same girl I was even at the beginning of the summer.

I think I’m ok with that. I’m more comfortable with myself than I have been in years; I’ve grown into my body. I like myself more now than I ever have. It’s weird how you mature in leaps and bounds and not as a gradual process. Looking back, I think there are certain events that mark some of the changes, not that I recognized it at the time.

“Free Blackjack Tournament”

There is a special place in hell for those who invented comment spam and those peddling Blackjack Tournaments should be at the front of the queue to get in.

You ever wonder how people can consider themselves human?

Tuesday, June 21st, 2005

How can people ‘marry’ themselves to a 12 year old? There comes a point when living in a different culture is no excuse for abject inhumanity. Abducting, raping, and ‘marrying’ 12 year old children is one of those times.

By refusing to condemn the behavior, we are in effect condoning it. Maybe someone should ask the little girls how they feel about living in a different culture.

Porn in greyscale = art?

Sunday, June 19th, 2005

My neighbor went on a business trip to France. They gave him a free magazine in his hotel room and he brought it home and gave it to me. (My mom had mentioned to him that I’m taking French.) The magazine is a copy of Vogue.

IT’S PORN. Seriously. I don’t understand how a magazine that’s supposed to be about clothing and fashion can be half-full of naked people. There are random pictures of people having sex. No caption, no explanation. Just “YAY FOR SEX! Moving on…” Hm. Maybe I’m just not sophistiqué enough to understand the artistry of random naked people fondling each other.

Yeah.
That’s it.
It’s in black and white!
It must be art!

Talking about abortion and gay marriage

Thursday, June 2nd, 2005

Today in Shakespeare class, some of my classmates and I were discussing different people’s views on various social issues. Two of the things we were talking about were abortion and gay marriage. The subject had turned to people who are against both gay rights and abortion, when one of my classmates brought up a very interesting question: what would someone who held those views choose to do if they knew that baby would turn out to be gay?

People are Weird

Wednesday, June 1st, 2005

Yay! I have a new blog and Alec made it pretty! Unfortunately I don’t have anything interesting to say. Like that has ever stopped me before.
Today, I went shopping for Girls State clothing. I’m kind of nervous about the whole thing; I’m going to be gone for a week, running for office and being elected by people I’ve never met before, and wearing what will be pretty uncomfortable clothes given the dress code and the weather in Ellensburg in June. Everyone who’s gone says it’s really fun; hopefully I’ll end up thinking so too. I will, of course, keep you posted.
