College application process

Saturday, August 6th, 2005

Well, today I took my first concrete step in the college application process…

I started the online application to the University of Chicago. It has an excellent academic reputation, is in the nice part of an interesting city, and is pretty close to my mom’s family.

It was hard to take this first step; I’m shedding my childhood. Time to start fulfilling my responsibility to the universe at large.

I miss the simplicity of kindergarten :-)

I wanna go to Yale

Sunday, June 26th, 2005

I just got back from one of those college info sessions that pretty much everyone my age has experienced. I know that there isn’t really any guarantee of getting admitted to any Ivy League school, so I shouldn’t get too attached to the idea of attending any of them. However, I just have to say it; I wanna go to Yale! *sniff*

Long-Promised Report

Saturday, June 18th, 2005

So, I got back from Girl’s State at 11:30 this morning and promptly took a 4 hour nap. I’m still tired, but not enough to fall asleep; just enough to be really lethargic and lazy. Anyway, here’s a day-by-day account of my adventures.

Sunday, June 12th - Ellensburg doesn’t know what hit them

I got to Central Washington University at about 2. Checked in, met some really cool people and found my room, which was pretty nice. Overcame my first challenge of the week: making a bunk bed. Met my roommate Beth and some other members of my city. Was one of 3 girls in my city to pass the bar exam, meaning I could run for judicial positions. Went to flag lowering and dinner, then to assembly and finally to bed.

Political Field Trip

Saturday, June 11th, 2005

Tomorrow I leave for Girl’s State, a big political nerd get-together. I’ll be back on the 18th; expect a full report.

Academic Awards

Monday, June 6th, 2005

Today, we had the Academic Awards as well as the band goofy awards. I’m happy to say that I did rather well for myself, winning Top Scholar, Science department and English department awards at the former and Most In Tune, Most Likely to Hold Up a 7-11 and Most Likely to be a Gangsta Rappa at band. Go me!

SATs Tests: Me No Count Good

Saturday, June 4th, 2005

I just took the most horrible standardized test ever; I signed up for the most difficult of the math SAT 2s because I figured that, since I’m probably going to get a 5 on the AP Calculus exam, I’m pretty good at math.

I didn’t remember how to do any of it.

Remember those things in Trig and Pre-Cal that no one really learned because nobody (not even the teacher) thought we’d ever use it? Polar equations, etc? The test was on that. It is SO FRUSTRATING to know that you knew how to do this problem last year but you can’t do it now. I skipped 5 out of 50. I’m gonna fail.
